Off your subject but curious....

Question: Did "Bud" have the same name as his father?

Years ago I read somewhere that "Bud" was the typical nickname for sons with their father's exact name and it was true for the two "Bud"s in my family. Neither one was a "Junior."

My paternal grandfather had the exact same name as his father and was called Mr. Bud by people in the community. My mother's maternal uncle had the same name as HIS father and was also called "Bud." In fact "Uncle Bud" is all I knew until I was nearly grown, having never heard him called any other name and thought it was his name.

Then I discovered genealogy, remembered Uncle "Bud" and had an aha moment since by then I knew his REAL name.....
