Another military kid! I lived for awhile in El Paso, Texas on the Ft. Bliss base and knew nothing or saw nothing of Jim Crow. We never went outside El Paso to the other Texas cities though and only went to Juarez, Mexico or White Sands, New Mexico for visits, thus avoiding Jim Crow. My brothers and I say that we were probably the only black kids, living in the South in the 50s, who saw nothing of Jim Crow or segregation. I suppose my parents meant for it to be that way.
