Re: Kathleen Wyer Lane- Sr. VP Dau Of Union Vetera

Dear George, Vicky and Regina:

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m very proud to be a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. I hope that my support and participation in the DUVCW will encourage women of color to join us in commemorating the Civil War service of their ancestors.

I’ve read on the pages of AfriGeneas that there are women who’ve traced their Civil War ancestry. The DUVCW is a genealogical organization and its membership welcomes all women who are descended from a Civil War Veteran. You can find out more about the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War at the link below:

In the press release it mentioned Caruth Smith Washington as a member of my chapter. I’ve always remembered her letter posted on the AfriGeneas Mailing list. She was asking the AfriGeneas family to support her in lobbying for her father’s posthumous award for his bravery in the Civil War.

She was 90 years old when she penned this letter to AfriGeneas in 1998. President Clinton finally awarded her father The Congressional Medal of Honor. God Bless her for pride in his valor. Her fortitude, and her love in ensuring his place in Civil War memory amazing.

Please click on the AfriGeneas link to read her words!

K Wyer Lane
