I just found out there will a 1 day workshop, hosted by the STL-AAHGS, at the Harris-Stowe University, saturday, Feb 18.
For those of you who live near the city, maybe you would like to come hear some very knowledgable speakers, who be will coming from different states. Some are right here on Afrigeneas, but I will let them tell you who they are. The topics will not be about St Louis Mo, from what I can see on the program. Workshops of any kind are very instrumental in giving information about any place in the USA research.
I believe all you need to do is google St Louis African American Historical and Genealogy Society to find out more. The site can give you the cost to attend.
Here's one little juicy tidbit of interest. A Soulfood restaurant called SWEETIE PIE'S. Did you see it on OWN -Ophra Winfrey's channel, last year. The owner of Sweetie Pie's was one of the first 3 backup dancer/singer's of Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Her 2nd restaurant is on Manchester Ave, in St Louis Mo, about 15 minute drive from this workshop. I need to tell you, it is a very busy place and the food is southern style. Different days, a different menu, ex. OX TAILS, peach cobbler. So if you decide to come and perhaps stop there, don't expect to get in and out of the restaurant in a timely manner. There are long lines, on weekends. But I will guarantee you she and her son, run a 'tight, respectful restaurant.' No goofing off is accepted from employees.
