Re: FAMILY HISTORY MONTH CHALLENGE #1
In Response To: FAMILY HISTORY MONTH CHALLENGE #1 ()
My great-grandmother was 1 of 8 children, 7 sisters and 1 brother. She had 3 daughters and these 3 daughters had 5 daughters and only 1 of her grandaughters had a son, ME.... I was the first male child in her line in 62 years. And being the strong woman that she was, it was mandated that my first 'home' would be with her.
My great-grandmother, Edna (Adams) Lee, born 19 Apr 1877, and her husband, Henry Wm. Lee, somehow had managed by 1926 to purchase a hotel, really a boarding house and restaurant, named the 'Red Goose Hotel' and 2 houses which stood next to it. The addresses 105, 111 and 117 So. Roosevelt Ave. in Piqua, Ohio.
On the 1930 census Edna, her husband, a daughter and 2 granddaughter's, including my mother, Vera E. Adams are living at 105 So. Roosevelt Ave. , the hotel/restaurant along with 4 roomers. She is renting out the properties at 111 & 117.
By coincedence, in 1930 the Hauschild family living at 111 So. Roosevelt Ave. has a daughter, 10 y/o, June F. Hauschild, who goes on to become my 6th grade teacher in elementary school.
By the time I'm born my great-grandmother has moved into 111 So. Roosevelt, my 'first home", her daughter Mabel (Lee) Yarbrough, is living at 117 So. Roosevelt and the Red Goose Hotel is still in operation at 105 So. Roosevelt Ave.
