Re: What is your most interesting discovery?
In Response To: What is your most interesting discovery? ()
I have had many interesting discoveries, thanks to the a lot of great people on Afrigeneas.com. They have helped me with other surnames and they know who they are. I will share those later.
My most interesting discovery was finding my cousin whom I had never met on Afrigeneas.com. Thanks to Regina.
My cousin, Alice Sykes had written a post looking for her grandfather, Julius West's ancestors and siblings from Dunn, NC. Well, Dunn, NC is a small town anyway, but growing. Regina looked up some information for her and responded back to my cousin Alice.
Note: Our grandfathers were brothers and sons of Silas and Winifred (Barefoot) West.
I was also researching the West Family myself and read that Alice Sykes was looking for her grandfather's relatives and I sent her a message on this forum. I knew that some of the West siblings had moved to south to GA, some north to PA. I had the names of all the siblings of Silas and Winifred West and I am not sure if she had those names or not. Anyway, we are on the same page with our research now.
To make a long story short, we talked on the phone and met in Jan 2001 and the rest is history. She did not know any of her West cousins at that point, so we planned a surprise visit in September 2001 to my home church in NC, so she could meet her new found relatives and Oh! were they surprised.
After we talked, we found out that we only lived about 8 or 9 miles from each other all these years in Maryland and did not know it.
We are now researching our West genealogy and working together to get our family tree more complete.
Thanks again, Regina
Alice West Ferguson
