Family Bible Findings & Cauley Surname

While on a visit home (Tennessee) I had the opportunity of going through a family bible that was owned by my great grandmother, Mollie Robertson. My mom now has the ownership of the bible. Along with this bible, she was given a framed photo of her and her mom. It is in one of those bubbled frames. We thought it was stuck to the frame, but turns out it was not. My brother made copies for all of us. The photo was originally in black and white, but in May 1958 a company colorized the photo. The date was written on the wood panel of the frame.

The bible contained recorded births, deaths and marriages. There were also documents in the bible. I found things such as:
• The receipt for the purchase of my great grandmother’s first television in 1961 for $329 with a monthly payment of $12.50 a month. It was an Admiral
• The draft registration card for my uncle
• A list of names from my grandmother’s church (in her handwriting) for payment of church dues. It was for the 1st Sunday, May 2, 1948. She collected the dues the Saturday before the Sunday.
• An award notice for my great grandmother for widow’s benefits dated 7/9/1959.
• A piece of hair wrapped up in plastic wrap
• A receipt for “Colored People’s Burial Association for $4.50 for 1973
• Delayed birth certificate for my great grandfather. It did not contain the correct date. My mom said his birthdate was August 6, but the delayed birth certificate says July6. I went to the 1900 census and it says the month of birth is August.
• A letter from the Census Bureau that was used to prove my great grandmother’s age to be used for her to apply for social security.
• There was a photo of my adopted uncle.
• There was a 3 X 5 card with a photo on it. It says, “Rev. L.E. Cauley
National Evangelist of Church of God in Christ., Little Rock Arkansas. There is no date at all on the card.

I tried finding information on Rev. L.E. Cauley but haven’t been that successful. On the back of the card it says, “this is my son.” My mother believes that he is the son of my great aunt Eddie Mae Robertson Stovall. She lived in Tennessee and later moved to Osceola, Arkansas. I also saw a write up where he was preaching at a revival in 1967 in Little Rock Arkansas. The only thing is that the article says the name “Lark Cauley.” I also ran across something that may indicate that he was also a singer. I checked SSDI and saw a Lark Cauley born 1914 and died 1985.

My speculation is that Lark Cauley is probably the father of L.E. Cauley because my aunt Eddie Mae was born 1912 and this would be about the same age as Lark. Aunt Eddie Mae died in 1994 in Osceola, Arkansas. I went looking for members of her family. I found a Edwina Stovall Williams. I have sent off a letter to her. If L.E. is Aunt Eddie Mae’s son, then he would have been born after 1930, because she’s 18 in 1930 with no children living with her sister. I’m figuring he was born between 1935 – 1945 or so.

If Cauley is one of your surnames and they are from Arkansas, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for letting me share.
