I also remember something to that effect. In fact, during one of his comedy specials, he tells a very poignant story of how his natural father left the family when D. L. was a young child. His mother remarried, and his stepfather was a loving role-model of a man. Once D. L. acchieved his fame, his natural father wanted to reconnect with him. D. L. permitted the meeting, within which he thanked him for his contribution to his existence, but then told him that he'd never have need to see him again. Further, he explained that his "real" father was the man who raised him, and whose surname was HUGHLEY.
