Re: How about "My Mother Prayed for Me"
In Response To: How about "My Mother Prayed for Me" ()
If anyone is interested in a hymnbook, there is a fairly new hymnal (copyright 2001) called "African American Heritage Hymnal, 575 Hymns, Spirituals and Gospel Songs,"... "preserving and promoting the best congregational music of our ecumenical African American Christian tradition." "....its greatest significance is that it is inclusive of the hymnody of the African American religious tradition." And it includes words and music for "Somebody Prayed for Me." Another good history of songs of the African American Church is "Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit, 101 Best-Loved Psalms, Gospel Hymns, and Spritual Songs of the African-American Church," Copyright 1997. It includes the words and music for the songs as well as some history of the specific period, divided into: The Negro Spirituals 1600-1870
