I'm not sure YOU can open the adoption records for someone else. Of course, this all depends on the Illinois State Law - which, I believe, protects the privacy of the "children" and adoptive parents. The laws are constantly changing, especially from one state to the next.
Still, there MAY be a way you can let them (or their descendants) know that you are looking for them with information on their birth family. If they are also looking, you will be able to connect all the sooner.
Keep in mind that it is their decision, wherever they may be now. They may not want to make contact - or may want to have the final word in the matter.
That being said, there are things you can do in the meantime. Get in touch with one of the many Adoptive research specialists. Learn the laws in Illinois and go from there.
