Genealogy tips

Those who may already be familiar with the Santa Monica, California-based RAND Corporation may associate it with its origins as America's original "think tank," a term originally coined by the British, but applied to the United States' unique post-World War II project.

RAND (short for Research and Development) established an environment of creative and intellectual freedom within which scientists and engineers could conduct innovative research and develop groundbreaking technological advances.

Over the years, as this non-profit institution has evolved and expanded, a group of its computer-oriented employees - who were also avid family historians and genealogists - began the RAND Genealogy Club in order to share information and resources with each other.

While members of the general public are not able to formally join the club, RAND employees have made their site - with its incredible listing of resources - available to everyone free of charge via the follow url:

http://www.rand.org/about/contacts/personal/Genea/.

From the home page, genealogists can choose from a categorized listing of links to hundreds of Web sites, arranged according to various subject headings, such as "Reference Information," "Historical Information," and "Regional, Ethnic, Religious Groups."

RAND Genealogy Club's impressive, easy-to-use site provides beginning researchers, accomplished family historians and seasoned genealogists with a useful "one-stop shop" of online genealogical resources.
