Patrick Tonyn Governor East Florida

Los Floridanos -Floridas first Spanish Families - Solana and Sanchen 1783, Francisco Sanchez was accused by the British Governor Patrick Tonyn of committing a long series of trespasses against the British.
Governor Tonyn felt that everything Francisco did was questionable, and was determined to destroy him and his property.

Governor Tonyn's major charges were that Francisco supplied the "Banditti" with ammunition, arms and provisions, and gave them shelter at one of his plantations about 18 miles west of Saint Augustine.

The First Florida Expedition
Patrick Tonyn, royal governor of East Florida was generally viewed as a capable leader.
Stuart's power was significantly more widespread than Tonyn's, for the Creek Nation that he had befriended spread across more than 10,000 square miles.

Governor Patrick Tonyn and General Prevost were fighting each other over control of Thomas Brown and his Florida Rangers.
To help the Rangers do this Governor Tonyn called on the Creek Indians, who were less than responsive to his plea.

Patrick Tonyn
TONYN, Patrick, British soldier, born in 1725; died in London, England, 30 December, 1804.
He became a captain in the 6th dragoons in 1751, with which regiment he served in Germany in 1758, was made lieutenant-colonel of the 104th regiment in 1761, and in 1775-'83 was governor of East Florida.
