MS Amite Cnty WPA Book
WPA book will be of interest to Amite County, Miss., researchers
By DAMON VEACH
The Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society is now taking orders for the purchase of a reprint of the WPA material compiled for Amite County, Miss., as a Works Progress Administration project in 1936-1939. The Amite County material was considered Volume III of the statewide compilation and was divided into Parts I and II for publications. Only three sets of the original printing are known to exist today.
One copy of the original two-part set is in the possession of the society. It was used to produce masters for the reprint so that the character and style of the original printing is preserved. This original printing was produced by using a manual typewriter. Part I has 406 pages, and Volume II has 528 pages. The original printing was in a hardcover format, but the reprint is with semi-flexible covers of a dark blue style called Carnival Cordwain, and the pages of text are on an off-white paper called Parchtone.
