Re: Funeral Flower Girls
In Response To: Funeral Flower Girls ()
In the Anniston Alabama area, female flower bearers are a tradition from the beginning of time at all funerals. As previously noted they are usually members of the same organization as the deceased member. If it is a Greek organization they will have had an "Omega" service with all of the final readings and rituals prior to the "wake".
At a recent funeral (Jacksonville, AL) the flower bearers would read the "from..." name from each arrangement while holding the flowers high for all in the audience to see ( sometimes assisted by the funeral directors} then the flower bearer would exit the church and make an archway, so to speak, from steps of church to door of hearse while still holding flowers until clergy and family made their exit. The flowers were then loaded in a flowers vehicle behind the hearse and in front of the family limousine and other cars.
Quite an event!
