The change in the cost of getting copies had nothing to do with Ancestry.com since they don't provide the copies.
The Social Security Administration raised the price. It was a matter of budgets, covering the cost involved in searching for and making copies of these records we genealogists want. Keep in mind that our requests have nothing to do with serving current (or future) beneficiaries which is the Social Security administration's real job.
Birth, Death, marriage certificates from the states/counties, etc., now cost more too. Same reasons.
