I believe the Connection Service is one of those free things that Ancestry just throws in. I may be mistaken, but I don't believe there are any costs involved.
When you are working in Ancestry and find a person you have been looking for, save them into the "People I'm Looking For" category. Before you are done saving them, there is a little box at the bottom of the page that says the following:
Share this Information?
Yes, show this person on my public profile so other Ancestry members may see my research interests
All you have to do to begin one aspect of the Connection Service is to check that box before saving. That then makes that individual's info viewable by other Ancestry subscribers. I don't know how many people you have saved in this manner, but it may be worth your while (over time) to go in and change all the ones you'd like to make viewable. That will increase your liklihood of making a connection.
