Re: Ancestry.com Connection Service
In Response To: Ancestry.com Connection Service ()
I am a subscriber to Ancestry.com, and currently use their Connection service. Since the Connection Service began along with Ancestry's other recent changes, several hundred of the people I am researching are revealed to other Ancestry.com users through their Connection Service. Among those several hundred, I have been contacted by a half dozen, or so, people looking to see if we are researching the same people. Additionally, I have contacted about the same number of people, myself. In one instance, I did make contact with a person who is connected to my family, if only in a collateral way. We have exchanged information, including contact information, by email and will communicate further in the future.
For me, it has been beneficial, and I will continue to make use of it. For others, just realize that most of the people you will be contacted about are not your relatives. You will be contacted by email by others researching people from the same region with the same (or a similar) name. Your actual email address is not provided. The email you receive is from a connection service. It is even up to you whether or not you choose to share your name and email address with the person you are contacted by. Remember that you can also contact others in this manner, as well.
I highly recommend it, and have found it useful.
