Found this in the TN Constitution of 1870:

"Section 14. The intermarriage of white persons with negroes, mullatoes, or persons of mixed blood, descended from a negro to the third generation inclusive or their living together as man and wife in this State is prohibited. The Legislature shall enforce this section by appropriate legislation."

I do see them in the 1870 census...where did Ann and children go by 1880? I see Henry married in 1874 to a Ann WARD Davidson County, the census of 1880, Henry was 66 (1814) she is age 28, born Ireland, daughter Susan 10 months.
He's appears to be a single man in the 1860 census, age 46 and living with a Susanah COMPTON,89.
