I've been searching for my GG-Grandfather Will HAWKINS in the 1900 census for at least 2 years.
He married about 1912 Elbert County to Minnie MORRISON. They are found in 1920 Ruckersville, Elbert County, Ga, Will age 33.. children: James, Willie, Sarah, S. (female) and Willie Mae. Clarence was born 1922.
In 1910 Will Hawkins age 23 and a George Hawkins age 19 are in 1910 Elbert County, living as boarders in household of Wright and Mary RICHARD.
There is 1 George HAWKINS born 1891 in 1900 that could possibly be the same George, but there is no Will. I checked all the surrounding counties as well.
Now in 1900 Putnam County, Rockville Militia District 307 I came across the following:
(note) The HQ index has this filed under Pulaski County, though it is Putnam County)
HAWKINS, Willie or Wilkes, B, Apr 1860, 40, Ga, Ga, Ga
Sarah, B, Feb 1862, 38, 6 children/4 living, Ga, Ga, Ga
Willie, dau, B, Apr 1882, 18
Wilks Jr, B, May 1887, 13
Clarence, B, Aug 1892, 07
Perry or Percy, B, July 1896, 03
(Wilkes HAWKINS m. Sarah BAYNES 28 Dec. 1882 Putnam Co).
3 of the names in this family are also names of my Will's children...
This may all turn out to be coincedental but it sure is intersting! Following up in the 1910 census there is no Will or Wilkes HAWKINS at home with parents or otherwise. What doesn't make since, if it's him, is why would he go to Elbert County? Is George HAWKINS a cousin rather than a brother? Both George and Will are found in the WWI Draft of Elbert County: Will gave DOB as Aug 1880, wife Minnie HAWKINS, but that surely doesn't match the consistant ages 23 and 33 on the 1910-1920 census. George gives DOB as Oct 1890 and 1900 census says Oct. 1891.
