Did you not read the post above from Regina? She stated: "Usually the Fed Govt workers have their own pension and no social security benefits are not taken out." My uncle worked for SSA. He is not in the SSDI because Social Security workers were not covered by social security when he lived because they had a separate retirement plan. People who worked for the federal government prior to 1984 were covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and not by Social Security.

According to Social Security Online at http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/fedgovees.htm, "If you worked for a Federal agency during these years, you did not pay Social Security tax on your earnings and those earnings are not shown on your record." However, a new retirement plan called the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) was adopted in 1984 which is covered by Social Security.
