Lafayette county is on the Louisiana border. It is in the southwest corner of Arkansas. The towns of any size in the vicinity of Stamps are Texarkana to the west and Magnolia to the east. Hope is north of Stamps. The Louisiana border is to the south.

I thought I was from a small town 'til I spent a summer in Stamps. I boarded with a couple who did not yet have electricity. This was the summer of 1958 by which time I did not know ANYone who didn't have electricty, my grandmother having surrendered to it by then. :-)
