Sorry, got into this discussion late. I would have also suggested the "hill" theory.
I like and do study place-names as much as possible. I find them so interesting as sources of historical information.
I have been trying to research the place-name of a possible black community named "Hoodoo" in Coffee County, TN.
I have search the web pretty well and came up with only 3 common uses of the word. The most common on the web is only the most popular now refering to blues/jazz music; second is herbal / root medicine; third is the geological column formations near cliffs.
Since this community dates back into the 1800s, modern music would not be an issue.
Have any of you ever heard of the name or have any ideas for its usage?
