A Personal Look @ Black History Month
For Black History Month how about looking into your own family for people to honor. For this year (2015), I intend to write a biographical sketch for a set of my 3rd great-grandparents..... Lewis & Susan Adams.... to present to my four (4) children, four (4) living grandchildren and twelve (12) great-grandchildren. Lewis was born enslaved in Kentucky (1785) and died free (1864) .... Susan was born enslaved (1795) in Canada and died free (1861).... they were married in Urbana, Ohio in January of 1816 and had a family of 12 children, 10 living into adulthood and having their own families. Seen here are photos of Lewis' manumission papers (1813), Registration in Champaign County, Ohio as a FPOC (1816), marriage record for Lewis & Susan (1816) and a deed of conveyance for property bought by Lewis Adams. (1829).
