Mary Virginia Moultrie Reid - obit
ALBANY-Mary Virginia Moultrie Reid, 77, of Albany died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 901 South Westover Road with Dr. Daniel Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Mary Reid was a native Albanian and retired educator. She taught in San Diego, CA, Toombs, Thomas, and Dougherty County school systems in Georgia. She retired from Merry Acres Middle School in Albany, GA.
Mrs. Reid was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she sang in several choirs; worked in the clothing and soup ministries; and tutored in the afterschool program. She was a dedicated member of the culinary ministry and Circle #1 mission. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, Albany State (College) University and received her Masters of Education Degree from Georgia State University. As an educator of health and physical education, Mrs. Reid also coached several athletic teams at Merry Acres. In addition to her contributions to educate children, she enjoyed r loopeading, cooking, bowling, gardening, traveling and setting up an annual holiday village.
She is survived by a son, Brent Reid; three sisters, Mrs. Carolyn M. (Renzie) Knighton, Mrs. Lillian M. Tolbert, Mrs. Linda Gay (Ananias Hilson), an aunt, Mrs. Charlotte Moore in Hampton, VA and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
