William Alexander Haley Sr. — son of “Roots” author, Alex Haley, who traced the lineage of an Alamance County family as part of his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel — died Monday.

William Haley worked for decades to further his father’s work through films, public appearances and other historical projects. Haley kept ties to Burlington and Alamance County and lived here for a time several years ago as he worked on several film projects. Last year, he donated “Roots” memorabilia to the Mebane Historical Society.

Most recently, he was working with producers to bring “Roots” to the Broadway stage.
