Re: Family History Where Do We Start?
In Response To: Family History Where Do We Start? ()
In addition to consideration of how to organize the doumentation of our findings, does anyone have suggestions for the format? At the moment, I am most interested in preserving this information in some sort of coherent manner to pass on to nieces and nephews, rather than "serious" publication. For those of us who are not particularly computer-savvy, what manner would you suggest? I realize I could compile paper documents into some type of volume but I wonder if the cyber method is more permanent? How much training does one need to go the electronic route? Could one scan documents (photos, certificates, text documents) and then compose them on a CD? Any advice is appreciated. This forum is an excellent concept. I've seen a couple of publications that reflect a tremendous amount of family history research but they just weren't reader-friendly, i.e. pages and pages of text that were not particularly interesting to read but were chocked full of information. Note to George G - I wouldn't worry too much about those unsolved mysteries. I just think it's critical to get the info that you've collected recorded in some form. SOMEONE in your family will come along and pick up those loose ends you didn't get to tie. Our charge is to make sure they know where to find the ends! Thanks much for adding the Writer's Forum to the boards - a brilliant and most helpful idea! Messages In This Thread |
