SHE WAS MY 'SPECIAL' COUSIN

Never could figure out as to why people often call others who seem to be a little bit different than others 'special'. Back in the day as I grew up either in D.C. or in N.C., there was this cousin, whom I will only call NUN. She was my age. She often sat alone when we had reunions or gatherings. She sometimes would get so upset she would start rolling on the floor or the ground. She could fight anyone, including a 200 pounder. She was about under 100 pounds at that time. NUN never said much. Cursed a lot though, and that was only because she knew that everyone laughed and enjoyed it. One day NUN left us for a long time. Years and years later. She had a baby, though she had to give it up. One day me and NUN got together; and funny, how funny, when she got to talking, she got to talking about the past, how them people just overlooked her, and she named them one by one. Why did she tell me this? She told me that out of all of my relatives she loved me. I was more of a brother to her than her own siblings. NUN died five years ago. She had a massive heart attack. But I keep her in memory. She was my special cousin in the way I saw her, not in the way others saw her. Joseph
