A author's thoughts on research

Hi Writers Forum Members:

Yesterday I had a delightful chat with Dr. Canter Brown, a talented author of many books on the history of Florida. I've just ordered his book, "Florida's Black
Public Officials, 18671924" and I hope to write a review for the Book Forum in the near future.

When asked how historical information should be gathered and presented, Dr. Brown said this:

"Keep taking chances. Try to be creative about where you might find materials. Be persistent and don't get discouraged. Keep plugging away. Even in the process of doing that, if you don't find exactly what you're looking for, you often find other things that are going to be wonderful in the future."

We've often discussed how we present our family history on this site so perhaps his words will inspire us to expand our focus beyond our family tree.

Write Away!
