ABC-CLIO, a leading history reference
publishing company, is currently preparing a two-volume reference work on national parks and historic sites (NPHS). The project, under editorship, will consist of approximately 300 entries written
by scholars and park personnel, and is scheduled for publication in June
2012.

The purpose of this book is to give students an easily accessible and
in-depth look at the nation's most important national historic parks and
landmarks. Users will learn about the historical significance, major
events, important individuals associated with a site, and the life of the site since coming under the National Parks System. Unlike a travel
guide, this title will provide students with historical context as well as important stats, figures, and interesting facts. Designed to be used
both in the history and geography classrooms, this reference book will
be a one-stop destination for students looking to learn more about our national parks and historic sites. Each entry will cover history,
people, and events associated with a site; a summary box of important
dates, facts, and figures; a timeline of adoption of each site; and a
bibliography.

The ABC-CLIO National Parks and Historic Sites: An Encyclopedia will provide a resource for high school and undergraduate students unlike any other now available. Please note that although the title only mentions national parks and historic sites, the work will actually include selected national parks, national historic sites, national battlefields, national battlefield parks, a national battlefield site, national historic parks, national military parks, national monuments, national recreation areas, and national preserves.

Your contributions will provide students with an accurate and
comprehensive understanding of the importance of these sites.

All contributors to the NPHS will receive author credits and access to
the online version of the encyclopedia (a $195 value). Contributors who write 2400 words and above will also receive a minimum credit of $200 toward the purchase of any ABC-CLIO publication, in print or e-book format. You may also use the credits to purchase a copy of the completed work.
