Re: Family Stories..Where does one really start?

Well basically, all I have are census records, charts and a few photos. No family oral at all. I called a family member in Arkansas to ask him questions regarding that side of the family but, he told me he really didn't know anything, he moved to MO. and returned after living there for about 20 years. This is the only side of the family that I can trace the last slaveholder of my Calbert side. The only people who are going to receive this is 'the family.' I can pick up a little bit of a story about their migration pattern from the census records, but really, all I know about is my California side as far as oral goes. And another puzzle I'm working on now is the fact that My GG Grandfather owned land in Louisiana in 1870 before moving to Arkansas, he doesn't show up anyplace at all as owning land there..So, I'm puzzled about why they made this move in the late 1880s, if it wasn't to buy more land at a cheaper price.
