Instantpublishers.com was one of the companies I consider to publish a church session (minutes) records book 1820-1889. I went with a local company, which offer a similar package as instantpublishers. I chose self publishing because I can order few books at a time, maintain my rights as author of the book, and I keep all of the small profits. Although I have been a self publishing author for only three weeks, I am pleased with the process.

My limited experience is that proof readers and a system of promoting your book are two tools needed with self-publishing. I am sure there are plenty more.
