Re: Bigida - Part I I - Holy Dancing

Wonderful writing and a great story.

Until I reached 8th grade, the only church in my community was my Baptist Church. I'd heard about the quiet services the Methodists had, heard tell that my G-gpa was a Methodist PE, but hadn't been to a Methodist church. We had a few shouters among our Baptists, nobody like Big Ida, however. :-)

We were 5 miles from the nearest "Pentecostal" church, almost nobody had cars, so there was one "sanctified" woman who sometimes attended our church. When she got "happy" she was something really different for us to watch.

A COGIC church finally grew up, starting out as a "brush arbor" next to someone's house, later expanding into a regular building. They had preaching _every_ Sunday (ours was twice a month) and we'd go there in the afternoons/evenings when they had service and we didn't. That was my first real experience with "Holy Dancing."

In the church where I've been a member since 1962, we had one of those ladies who threw things; her Bible, her purse, her hat. And she'd try to get to the preacher, who was luckily, out of her reach.
