2007 Bicentenary for the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act Poetry
Competition

Arts Council England are looking for a poem to complement eleven
special commissions from some of the country’s leading poets.

This is our way of commemorating the Bicentenary of the Abolition of
the Slave Trade Act. The final set of twelve poems will take
enslavement as their theme, exploring this from a range of very
different perspectives.

The competition is open to anybody who has not yet had published a
full-length collection of their own verse.

The winner of the competition will see their work published alongside
the eleven commissioned poems and receive a prize of £500.
