The Sci-Fi genre or rather the broad term, speculative fiction is wide open and the demand for Black writers has broadened. L.A. Banks' vampire series took off big and has spawned a following of readers and writers. Marcus Book Store in Oakland say they cannot keep those types books on the shelf. So the demand is there and of course everyone's mentor, the late Octavia Butler's work is still in demand. Even though speculative fiction is not one of my favorites (I read Tanananrive Due and some Butler)I am happy that the field has opened up to Black writers. We are not to be limited. We can write anything.
