Re: Tribute to An Alabama Writer
In Response To: Tribute to An Alabama Writer ()
I had the privilege of being one of Mrs. Blackshear's English students at Robert E. Lee High School (graduated 1963) and also a member of the Scribblettes, her creative writing club for students. I was thrilled when she assisted me in having two poems published in a Young Writers' Anthology. I never knew her as anything other than a gifted and dedicated teacher, well remembered and revered, until today, 3/17/07, when I was researching something on the Web and happened on the information that she was a Poet Laureate of Alabama. I then switched to researching her and was amazed to learn of all that she had published of her own work and the edited or collected works of others. I had no idea! I am gratified to know that her gifts were so well known and appreciated by others. I wish I had known of this before her death. As an adult I often drove past her beautiful old home and thought of her, and occasionally thought of trying to contact her, but never did. I regret my inaction, and my loss by not pursuing the thought. Thank you for honoring her memory. Teresa Dorminey, Montgomery, Alabama
