AfriGeneas Writers Forum

Re: Remembering the Berlin Olympics and Beyond

What a wonderful retrospective! It's all there except for a tweaking...opening and closing.

Perhaps you or someone from the Writers Forum could tweak it a bit more.

The New York Times has a photo journalism page each Sunday called, "What were they thinking?"

The heart of your remembrance was about the courage of young black men to protest the honors that they won for their country in the face of bigotry that was "American as apple pie." The US Olympic Team was composed of a bunch of conservative old white men who didn't get. At the same time the US was still struggling to recognize the basic human rights of black Americans.

I leave the serious editing to some of our more seasoned writers. I would be interested in knowing what happened to these young men. Did they retain their titles? Were they stripped of them?

Take it away someone else....
