Anacostia: A Guide to Research and Genealogy
Hi Afrigeneas Writers:
The Anacostia Museum for African American history at the Smithsonian Institution offers an important guide for researching the communities of our ancestors. In addition, it will help family historians to focus on their local towns and cities to capture its vitality, and "essence"; thus creating a dynamic backdrop for their story.
Although the Anacostia community in Washington is the centerpiece for this guide, it's an effective template for researching and writing family history in any region. It will prompt us to remember to include schools, colleges and churches in our ancestor's community; and not to forget the businesses, unique buildings, artifacts, monuments, possible artists, or a hospital in our chronicle.
Please bookmark the Anacostia Museum's webpage as an important research and writing support tool.
