Wow Regina! I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
You reminded me of that writer's exercize of when you have a block, you should write about an inanimate object and see where it leads you. The rain. For me, it conjured up images of my grandmother fussing with a faulty umbrella which pointed to her church going shoes which leads me to think about writing how religious she was and her church affiliations. That, in turn, reminds me of one of the 'tin-types' photo I have of three of my great aunts posing with umbrellas; circa 1880-1890. Memories, such as in your story, can easily be the cornerstones of our writing about our family histories. "We saw many rainbows back then". What a powerful sentence; within the context of the story- and outside. It deserves to be on a line all by itself! I thank you. Peace,
