Re: Personal Genealogy Websites

() I started mine in 1999 after our reunion in Milwaukee. It was first hosted on Geocities until we purchased our domain in 2002. Recently, I found that a lot of the family was beginning to utilize the site more. They've even started referring me to people! I have basically used the site as a hobby, since I have an interest in web and graphic design, as well as video editing. The intial site started off with some history, a list of names and e-mails for family members and a few pictures. Now we have a Yahoo! group, interactive family tree and kinship lists, photo galleries and video, archives, a newsletter and family history updates. We also have an e-mail list that I send out updates on the family too. In the future, I plan on creating a web based database that people can go into and update their information themselves. I am now learning how to write databases. Since starting the site, I also acquired an interest in genealogy. A second cousin had done some work in 1985, which I loved to look at as a child. With that work, and another list from another cousin, I put them together and then worked foward. Since September 2004, I've found over 200 family members, and I continue to find more each day.
