to see all of the negative comments made about the ramapo indians ... I can see why family history of the ramapo is kept so private... you can say secretive ... but it really is just for privacy sake. If you are told the truth then you insist it is something else. If you say "hey we are american indian" the response is always something to the contrary or negative.... Intermarriage is part of so many societies . Italian. Middle Eastern. Russian. etc.. that to say that these families intermarried is ridiculous. To say that because they are of a light complexion that they are albino is untrue. It only makes a white person feel more comfortable to explain why the complexion is not so much different from their own. ... To say they are uneducated is demeaning ... if you look back in history the residents of Hillburn had to be represented by Thurgood Marshall just to be able to go to school. ... Tell me ... if they did indeed live in the mountains for so many years ... why would they even have to be educated by white america's standards.... If there is a truth to be told .. maybe it should stay right where it is .
