I could be mistaken but it sounds like the Ramapough Mountains Indians are similar to the other clans that developed around southern slave port cities such as the Wesorts of Maryland and Virginia, Melungeons of Tennesee, Turks and Lumbee Indians of the Carolinas, Creoles of Louisiana, Brass ankles and Dominickers of Florida. Am I correct? All of these clans are a mixture of African, European, Native or Hispanic people.
I apologize if I have not matched the states and their clans correctly or have omitted any. My knowledge is limited to the Wesorts of Maryland, my clan. Many people are surprised when they stumble upon these isolated (until recently) communities. While American history does not acknowledge marriages between indentured servants and slaves(considered illegal at the time)nor relationships whether forced or consensual between slave owners and slaves, it is quite evident it occured; quite frequently in the south. Just take a look around anytime you visit the southern gulf/ocean ports and really look at the people/families who have lived there since the 1600's.
