I was born in the Suffern Hospital and lived in Hillburn for the first 35 years of my life. I have read all the posts, good and bad, and wonder how stupidity, misinformation, disinformation, and pure raceism have led to the views that some people hold about this quiet little community. I think there has been one murder and one murder suicide in the last 300 years. Though never a good thing, I'll bet that rate is much lower than most communities within 30 miles of a major city. Ignorance and racesim have kept people of color down since the founding of this country, why should it be any different here. I remember teachers at Suffern High School who didn't think we were smart enough for college prep courses.
To put most of the myths to bed I had my DNA tested because I wanted to know who I really am. For $400 anyone can find out. My last name is Powell and have grandparents of Van Dunk, Degroat, Milligan, and Boddy. My chart says I am European, sub-saharan african and american Indian. 62% european! How's that for a kick in the ass.
