It breaks my heart to read such trash about my people! All of thesearticles written by observers over the many years. The problem is that it is so easy for a non native to presuppose what a native should look like, and make assumptions based on their own bias and ignorance as to what an indian should look like!what is determining that there is african blood in "all" the mt. people? what are African features? people on the continent of Africa differ greatly. In the homelands of white people, amoung the countries, they look quite different! Yet,these white observers, with their inherent, inate ability to know all things, on all topics, state that their is Negro blood? I'ld like to know then, who did all the dna research?
on all 3,800 people? to what persons free or enslaved, does the documentation show connects ramapough indians to an African tribe?
The problem is that from the onset, anyone not gifted with white skin
was documented as "colored". this included any and all mixing between races. To a white person, there is no distinction. So over time, Indian, Indian/Dutch,Black/Dutch, Indian/black, becomes simply "colored", or more to the point, whatever....just not white!
if we are jackson white, what do you call other indians with white surnames? To my knowledge, they are called indian. blacks who have married into indian tribes, and whites also who mixed in are still described by the tribe they belong. how many blond hair, blue eyed indians do you know? I know many who are tribally enrolled. go figure! Yet by others observations of us, we are jacks and whites, to be correct. I'm sick of it all. It is all politically driven, especially nowa days more than ever due to gambing in the state. the truth is out there, however truth rarely stands up to power.divide and conquer tactics are still thriving also! Sadly the myths and generational lies regarding my people has taken on a life of its own, and all non indian, non tribal enrolled members, have become
"experts" on us. I can't wait to see what happens to us next!
