Kweenganayohweh,
Ramapough Mt. Lenape Indians are the largest tribe in Lenapehoking(land of the lenape)We are an ancient people, as Kathy has stated, and the people from which many other Algonquin peoples have dervived.
We are Lenape (real men/women, chosen people)We are Munsee (people of the stony country)We are Ramapough (people of the slanting rock)
We have a unique and rich history. Until recently, many have sought to make a name for themselves, and used our people to do it for generations. As a result, our people have suffered. This is about to end! We are presently working with a t.v. network to air a documentary to tell the true documented story on the Native people of N.J. This however is still in the development phase, but we look foreward to its release. Our tribal building renovation is also nearly completed. The artistry and craftsmanship of our people who are donating their time and talents to this project is breathtaking!
I cannot wait until the grand reopening, to share in the pride of the new great hall. I look foreward to many gatherings there.
The N.J. State Commission on American Indian Affairs is also looking
foreward to many new exciting endevors. As we continue to work for all of the 27,000 Native people living in our state. It has been my honor to serve our people, and educate all regarding The Ramapough Mt. Lenape people, protectors of the eastern gate.
Anushiik,
Commissioner
