() When I lived at Cupsaw Lake, I went to school and shared class for nine years with the mine area community. We never used the term "Jackson White" as it did offend. Many of my former classmates did not consider themselves Afro-American either. The proper spelling of two of the sur names would be Degroat and Van Dunk. I don't remember how De Fries was spelled as there were not many classmates with that name as I recall. I can remember some people with a difficult home-life, but yet always saw humor and were quite loyal friends. Kindness, respect and honesty were always returned to those few from my area who gave the same. I often wonder how everyone is doing there.
