Yes, there were first generation Africans and African Americans in German concentration camps. I cannot confirm African-Americans in German concentration camps during WWI; however they were captured and detained during WWII. Yhere are records which I read of First generation Africans being placed in
Ftench Vichy Camps during WWII.

First generation Africans were captured from merchant shipping during WWI, and in German colonies (W. Africa) accused of being spies. Both groups were sent to concentration camps in Germany. While in Germany they were allowed to write to their families (after delays) informing them of their capture. Many Africans almost died because they were not given Red Cross parcels. From my research I learned that these parcels helped to add to the scanty rations which they and others were getting.

Africans during WWI, like many other POW's, applied for compensation. Many Africans did get compensation when they applied for it. Their was a time limitation on applying for compensation. Therefore many who deserved to get it didnot.

I read of a particular complaint from an African who was trying to get compensation based on the fact that his health had been compromised so very badly. He did get compensation but was informed that he did not have adequate medical reports to support claims based on medical grounds.

Their is a great deal of information available. However one has to do deep research and have some knowledge of German and French to place the facts in a historical context.
