Re: Gradiations of Passing
In Response To: Gradiations of Passing ()
I am from a village called Cofield, near a town burned during the Civil War called, Winton, near a little town called Ahoskie. I want you to know that I can witness all that is said here. There was a lot of this there, many of the people who call themselves Meherrin Indians have some Indian bloodlines, yet I know that many of us have white blood lines and were free people. Yes, they(nixed raced people of Negro and White ancestry crossed over moved to Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, and other places to hide their true identity. I am really upset about the prejudice within a race, many young girls left with blond and red hair and married white men..once they came to the town and saw relatives, well they divorced them because they were black in origin. I am light myself yet, and look more Hispanic than Black and I am often mistaken for Hispanic, maybe it is there genetically, yet I have not denied my African American heritage...Have you ever read Roots, or watched any movies that include high yellow, or mulatto people, watch closely they call...what can come out in DNA jigga boo, pequeno nino (little black childe) or the n word. Watch Queen and Roots, it makes one upset but, we have been prejudice within a race. If you have children it will show up and show out...but it(DNA) is not to be frowned upon. I pray that the people of Cofield, Ahoskie, Murfreesboro, and Winton learn it is fine to be black, not Indian or some other race. I pray that the people will not deny their heritage and it is a gift from God...
