Re: Tracing Persons Passing for White
In Response To: Re: Tracing Persons Passing for White ()
Lots of people seem to be passing for something or the other. I have had friends of relatives who pass for white. I never forget the time when we had a family reunion back in the 1950s here in Washington,D.C. and a lady named Miss Jackson was always there. One cousin knew her. The lady was very fair and practically near white, but we just took it as it was and thought no more about it. Yet, in New Jersey were she was from, in a small white community, this lady was married to a white man, but they had no children. She lived in the white world as a white woman, but when by coincidence some friends who were at the reunion ran into her, she sheilded herself from them as not to let on like she knew them because "what would my white neighbors think". It's too bad that we have to go like this in the world. A book called Human Stain that was also a movie is of very good intereset. Joseph
