“The Internet is a great resource for finding information, said Aletta Linares of Asheville. “I have always been interested in my family because my father died very young (in World War II). I’m Dutch, but I was born in Indonesia of a Dutch father and a mother born in Venezuela of German parents.”
The Web enabled Linares to find relatives in Holland, records of her ancestors in The Hague, and even a book about her family in Holland. “Without the Internet, I would have never been able to find any of it,” Linares said.

• Cyndi’s List has more than a quarter-million links to Internet genealogy resources, www.cyndislist.com.
• The National Archives has military service records for American soldiers from the Revolution to the present day, www.archives.gov/veterans/ military-service-records.
