Hello and Thanks: I appreciate your posting about the genealogical workshop on Ireland. Many Afrigeneas researchers have Irish ancestors or Irish slave owners who pre-date the large wave of Irish immigrants from the last century. Therefore our additional research task invariably includes an understanding of early settlers and their families. In this case Ireland, but our research can also extend to all of Europe, South America, and Scandinavia. Paul Heinnegg's body of work connects Irish, Scottish and English immigrants to people of color mainly from the Upper South. Below is a link to a discussion about the origin of last names: http://bz.llano.net/gowen/manuscript/Gowenms001.htm The main url link below is from commonplace.org. It includes Paul's research and early photographs. Forum, thanks again for underlining the importance of searching and understanding the world beyond local and national borders. Your posting has inspired me to find additional world resources concerning the African Diaspora. When I find them, I will share them with the World Forum at Afrigeneas! K Wyer Lane
